Short Week!!

The week of the 13th is a short week. We have school Mon Tue and a short day Wed. There is no school on Thurs or Friday. Then we are off track after that, so kids won't be back until November 10th. I hope everyone has a fantastic break.

Kids can start working on push ups during their time off if they would like and they can also keep practicing their math facts. We also have a reading challenge from the principal to see who can get the most reading minutes before Noveber 10th, so we have an advantage being off track because kids will have more time to read! They need to keep a log of the date and the minutes they read and parents need to sign it. Kids need to bring this back to me on Monday, November 10th! They can read whatever they want and are interested in and could even get their next book for their next book report read! Happy reading!

Obert Sky

Obert Sky came and did an assembly for us today. He wrote the Leven Thumps series (great books for 5th graders) and also has a new book out called Pillage. He will be at Barnes & Noble tonight starting at 6 to sign books if you buy or have his books. What a neat experience for your kids to meet an author! I will be at the book signing! Hope to see some of you there! These would be great books to use for our December choice book reports or for our January Fantasy book reports. They could get a head start on reading them now.

Donations

Our class is currently running low on hand sanitizer and we are completely out of Kleenex tissues. If anyone is able to donate either of these to the class, it would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

36 Club

36 Club is a school wide program designed to help students with their basic math facts. Make sure your child is practicing at home EVERY DAY until they pass them all off. There will be rewards for students as they pass off each concept and when they pass off the humdinger I will give their name to Mrs. Tompson to add to our 36 club board. Students have the entire year to pass these off, but I will require they are finished with addition and subtraction by December break. They need to pass all 36 facts in 1 minute 30 seconds and the humdinger in 5 minutes. Thanks for practicing these with your kids.

Presidential Fitness

Currently, the students are working on sit-ups for presidential fitness. This is how many they need to get to get an award:

Boys 10 years old: presidential -45 national - 35
Boys 11 years old: presidential - 47 national - 37
Girls 10 years old: presidential - 40 national - 30
Girls 11 years old: presidential - 42 national - 32

The presidential award is the best, and the national is still really good. Their last chance to pass off sit-ups is before we go off track. When we come back, we will start doing push-ups so students can practice when they are off track if they would like to get a head start! I'll post how many they need when we get back on track.

Classroom Blog

I have decided to start a classroom blog. This is a blog that parents or students can visit to see what is going on in our classroom. I will try to post pictures, important information that isn't on the newsletter and stay up to date on what we are learning in the different subjects in school. I will also add any special occasions/parties/events or anything else I can think of that would be important to parents. I only want to continue with this blog if it is useful to parents. So please feel free to leave any comments on other things you would like me to post on this blog. I am up for any suggestions that could make this better for parents.

Thanks for visiting!
